Childhood Food Insecurity
in Duluth, MN

ABOUT US
We are four students at UMD researching food insecurity in children at Myers-Wilkins Elementary. We saw this as a problem because of our first hand experiences while volunteering in the after school program.
One day during Compass, the free after school program at Myers-Wilkins, the students were acting up and lashing out at the teachers. One teacher said this was unusual and it sparked my interest. I asked why she thought they were acting up today and she said, "I think it's because they know we don't have Compass tomorrow and for some of the kids that means one less meal that day for them."
